US dominates Men’s Ski Pipe
David Wise Gold Men's Ski Pipe
PyeongChang 2018Olympic news: US stars top podium in Men’s Ski Pipe
The US team dominated the Men’s Ski Pipe earlier this morning taking Gold and Silver in the shape of David Wise and Alex Ferreira respectively. New Zealand’s Nico Porteous took Bronze with team-mate Beau-James Wells having to settle for 4th.
The US took 1st and 2nd positions with New Zealand 3rd-4th and Canada 5th-6th. New Zealand’s Byron Wells – who had originally qualified 4th – injured himself in training and was forced to withdraw from the event. His brother would eventually slip into 4th in the final.
Wise battled with broken bindings but left his best til last laying down an epic run scored at 97.20 with four different double corks, narrowly beating his fellow countryman Ferreira. Young gun, 16 year old Nico Porteous wasn’t far behind with a score of 94.80 – surely a talent to watch for the future. His Bronze medal came on a good day for NZ skiers and snowboarders with fellow 16-year-old Zoi Sadowski-Synnott taking Bronze – and New Zealand’s first Winter Olympics medal since 1992 – in the Women’s Snowboard Big Air.
